While most of landlocked Austria sits at high elevation along the eastern Alps, particularly in the southwest, rolling hills and plains make up much of the eastern quarter. Germany and Czechia border the North with Slovakia and Hungary to the East, Slovenia and Italy to the South, and Switzerland at its far western tip.
